The International Red Cross Movement decided not to suspend the membership of the Russian branch, despite all the violations of the rules of neutrality.

As The Guardian reports, citing an international media investigation, numerous violations of the Red Cross charter by the Russian organization have been identified since the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine. Moreover, the heads of regional branches declared the need for a war against the “Ukrainian Nazis,” and uniformed Red Cross workers often attended military exercises for children.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has the power to suspend members who violate the principles of neutrality and independence of the Red Cross. Last year, a corresponding decision was made regarding the Belarusian branch.

However, after a four-day meeting of IFRC representatives in Geneva, they refused to suspend the activities of the Russian Red Cross. Instead, they decided only to create a supervisory body and ask them to “resolve identified problems and alleged violations” of the principles of integrity.
