On the night of May 10, the First Plant oil refinery in the Kaluga region of Russia witnessed a terrible attack when several kamikaze drones controlled by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense caused serious damage to the facility. Sources in the Ukrainian intelligence services revealed details of this incident, which caused serious concern and concern in the region.

Incident details

According to information received from sources, between 00:45 and 01:25, five powerful explosions were heard at the facility, which resulted in a large-scale fire. The installation of the AVBT-101 atmospheric-vacuum tube, as well as several tanks with diesel fuel and fuel oil, were especially damaged. This attack caused severe damage and loss to the plant, and also posed a threat to the environment and personnel safety.

"First Plant": Oil Refining Center

"First Plant" is the largest petrochemical enterprise in the Kaluga region and plays a key role in the processing of oil and gas condensate. Located approximately 300 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, this plant became a target for attacks not only this time, but also before. Ukrainian intelligence has already attacked it on March 15, 2024, indicating the seriousness of the situation in the region and growing tensions between the countries.

Reaction and consequence

Witnesses to the incident described how drones were seen in the sky before the explosions, and then a fire started. Emergency services were immediately called to the scene and fire extinguishing began. The head of the Kaluga region, Vladislav Shapsha, also confirmed information about the incident.

This incident highlights the issue of security not only at the refinery, but also at other strategically important facilities in the region. The need to develop and implement effective defense systems against kamikaze drones is becoming increasingly urgent in the context of increasing tensions and conflicts at the borders.
