The situation on Ukraine's eastern front remains tense, but military experts say Ukrainian forces could shift the balance of power in their favor to the south. In an interview with RBC-Ukraine, military analyst Alexey Getman expressed confidence that the summer offensive of Russian forces has already begun, but he believes that the Russian occupiers have concentrated their efforts in the east of the country, opening up the possibility for the Ukrainian armed forces to seize the initiative on the southern front.
Getman stressed that, despite the ongoing fighting in southern Ukraine, Russian forces are now seeking to contain the Ukrainian armed forces rather than actively moving forward. He noted that the Ukrainian military, receiving the necessary weapons in sufficient quantities, can seize the initiative on the southern front and resist the aggressive actions of Russian forces.
However, the expert did not make precise predictions regarding the time frame for seizing the initiative. He noted that with the beginning of the summer offensive of Russian forces, the situation at the front may change, and the Ukrainian military should be prepared for dynamic changes in the enemy’s tactics.
Military analysis sources also report an increase in ground attacks by Russian forces on the eastern front in recent months. This indicates the intention of the Russian military command to consolidate the successes of its army before Western military assistance arrives at the front. Major of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, deputy commander of the 3rd separate rifle brigade, Maxim Zhorin, emphasized that now at the front there is truly the most threatening situation since the beginning of a full-scale war.
