Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Olga Stefanishyna, confirmed the extension of the temporary protection status for Ukrainians in the European Union. According to her, the decision was made in conditions of instability and insecurity that do not allow making a different decision.
Security conditions and extension of temporary protection status
Stefanishyna noted that Ukraine and the European Commission agreed to review the status of temporary protection for Ukrainians when the security situation improves. However, there are currently no such conditions and the temporary protected status will be extended. According to her, the return of Ukrainians will be considered in the light of the changing situation.
Dialogue with the European Commission and plans for the future
Stefanyshina emphasized the ongoing dialogue with the EU Commissioner for Migration and Home Affairs, carried out since February 24, 2022. She confirmed that the status of temporary protection will be reviewed taking into account changing security conditions, which will allow Ukrainians to smoothly return to their native lands.
Extension of temporary protection
The European Commission has proposed extending the temporary protection status for refugees from Ukraine until March 2025. This decision will provide stability and support to more than four million people who are protected in EU countries. The Temporary Protection Directive ensures Ukrainians have access to housing, the labor market, health care and other social services, ensuring their stable residence in the European Union.
The temporary protection status for Ukrainians in the European Union has been extended in light of the current situation. Extending this status gives Ukrainians stability and protection in times of uncertainty, ensuring they have access to necessary social services and the labor market.
