Russian military intelligence officers attempted to organize anti-war rallies and demonstrations in Germany in order to influence public opinion and undermine support for Ukraine. This was reported by European officials familiar with the situation, citing Bloomberg.
Strategy of manipulation through peaceful events
According to sources, Russian military special forces, in particular the psychological operations unit 54777 of the GRU, were involved in the activities of the Alternative Kinder Zukunft (AKiZ) organization and its photo project “Children of War”. The project, which began in Cologne in June 2022, aimed to draw attention to the suffering of children in armed conflict zones, but officials say it was used for propaganda campaigns.
AKiZ as a tool of influence
AKiZ, according to European officials, has become a propaganda tool aimed at creating a negative image of NATO and calls for an end to arms supplies to Ukraine. The organization was also involved in organizing protests and peace rallies in German cities such as Berlin and Ramstein.
Reaction to accusations
Oksana Walter, head of AKiZ, rejected accusations of links with Russian intelligence, saying that the project is dedicated to children and is not a tool of political propaganda. At the same time, there are no official comments from the organization and the Russian GRU regarding these accusations.
Russian propaganda and its consequences
These accusations come in the context of recent news about the spread of Russian propaganda in Germany and other European countries. Information about falsification and manipulation of the media is becoming increasingly relevant in the context of the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which has been going on for several years.
