On Sunday, May 26, a drone of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine attacked the Voronezh M long-range target detection radar station.
With reference to sources in the Main Intelligence Directorate, the drone hit a radar station located in the city of Orsk, Orenburg region of the Russian Federation.
“The Ukrainian drone covered a distance of more than 1,800 kilometers to an enemy target, setting a new record for the range of destruction for kamikaze drones,” the source said.
Previously, the most distant target attacked by Ukrainian drones was a facility in the city of Salavat (Bashkortostan), which is located 140 kilometers closer to the Ukrainian border compared to Orsk.
"Voronezh M" is part of a family of Russian long-range stationary ultra-horizontal radar stations. They are designed to detect space and aerodynamic objects, in particular, ballistic and cruise missiles. This radar operates in the meter wavelength range and has a target detection range of up to 6,000 km,” the agency’s interlocutor noted.
