The Air Force pointed out an important nuance regarding Gripen fighters for Ukraine

Ukraine has long wanted to receive Swedish fourth-generation JAS 39 Gripen multirole fighters; we already have the infrastructure suitable for them.
The chief of aviation of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Sergei Golubtsov, spoke about this in an interview with Donbass Reality. According to him, back in 2018, four types of aircraft were identified with which Ukraine wants to replace the Soviet aircraft fleet.
“This is the F-16 as the most popular aircraft. This is the Gripen as the most philosophically modern aircraft. These are Eurofighter and Rafale. The choice was not based on names, but on tactical and technical characteristics, on operating conditions, on the quality of our airfield network,” - he explained.
In first place is the American F-16, now Ukraine is developing infrastructure for it - the air intake of this fighter is located low, so it requires increased cleanliness of the airfield. Second place goes to Gripen; Sweden has already sent all the necessary requests.
“It’s just that this process is not a priority right now, but we are considering the possibility of obtaining these aircraft. The infrastructure is already suitable for them. This is an aircraft that was produced according to the Swedish dispersal strategy. It can even use ordinary roads, it does not need any specialized coating And it also uses the entire line of Western weapons. Everything that can be used on the F-16 can be used on the Gripen,” Golubtsov added.
