Ukrainian soldiers have regained lost positions north of Kharkov and are conducting a counterattack along a windfall southeast of Glubokoe.
As stated in a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Russian “military correspondents” announced a counterattack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces around Glubokoye. One blogger noted that Ukrainian counterattacks are complicating the situation for the occupiers in the area.
Several Russian sources also reported Ukrainian counterattacks in and around Volchansk, but claimed that the Russians had allegedly advanced 1.8 km along a 4.5 km wide front north of Volchansk and were making progress in the aggregate plant area.
Russian and Ukrainian sources suggested that the Russian Federation had attracted reserves on the “northern axis” of the Kharkov region. The scale of attraction of reserves remains unknown.
A Russian source claimed that units of the 155th separate marine infantry brigade (Pacific Fleet) of the Russian Federation are operating near Volchansk. Recently, ISW recorded units of this brigade in the Maryinsky direction.
“If this is true, then the appearance of units of the 155th Motorized Rifle Brigade in the Volchansk area may indicate a redeployment from the Donetsk direction to the Kharkov direction in order to strengthen the Russian group in the Kharkov region, which may also partially explain the discussions of Russian reserves entering the area,” it says report.
The representative of the Kharkov group of troops of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Yuriy Povkh, noted that the occupiers are also trying to build fortifications around the captured positions in the region. The Ukrainian General Staff reported that the invaders carried out unsuccessful ground attacks on June 12 and 13 near Glubokoe, Volchansk and Tikha.
