During the debate, Joe Biden and Donald Trump raised the issue of the war between Ukraine and Russia, and Trump said that Putin would take over Ukraine. At the same time, the ex-president emphasized several times that Russia would never have attacked if he had been president.
So, according to him, if “there was a real president in America, whom Putin respected, he would never have invaded Ukraine. A lot of people died, much more than they think. You can double these numbers, perhaps triple them. He ( Biden) did nothing to stop it."
Trump noted that Ukraine is running out of people.
"Ukraine is not going to win this war. They're running out of people, they're running out of soldiers. They've lost so many people. They've lost these majestic cities with golden thousand-year-old domes - all because of him (Biden) and the stupid decisions he's made. Russia would never have attacked if I had been president," Trump said.
According to Trump, Biden "encouraged Russia to invade" due to the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan in 2021.
"It was a terrible shame, the most shameful moment in the history of our country. When Putin saw it, he said: 'You know what, I think we'll get there.' It was his dream. I talked to him about his dream. The difference is, that he would never have invaded Ukraine (under another US president)."
He also noted that during his presidency, Putin did not take land.
“Russia took a lot of land under Obama, under Biden. But not under me. Putin knew that he couldn’t play with me. The war in Ukraine should not have started, and now he will take over Ukraine,” he said.
