North Korea (DPRK) has already begun to benefit from cooperation with Russia, especially in the field of missile technology. This was stated by military expert and editor-in-chief of Defense Express Oleg Katkov. In his words, there is an obvious connection between the new developments of North Korea and the support received from Russia.

North Korea's progress in missile development

Without any formal agreements, North Korea successfully tested its new Hwasong-17 intercontinental ballistic missile. These tests included testing separate warheads, which is a complex technology. According to Katkov, the Hwasong-17 missile appeared “out of nowhere,” raising suspicions of foreign assistance.

Experts note that some of the technological solutions used in the Hwasong-17 are similar to those used in Soviet and Russian missiles. This applies, in particular, to engines of the first stage. This suggests that North Korea used ready-made solutions received from Russia.

Expert Statement

Oleg Katkov emphasizes that the DPRK is already receiving ready-made technologies from Russia, especially in the field of missile weapons. This is confirmed by successful tests and the similarity of technologies with Russian analogues. Thus, cooperation between the two countries is already bearing fruit.

In June, Russian President Vladimir Putin visited North Korea, where a partnership agreement between the countries was signed. This treaty provides for mutual assistance in the event of aggression against one of the participants. Putin also said that Russia does not exclude the possibility of developing military-technical cooperation with the DPRK.

North Korea's plans to support Russia

It recently became known that North Korea may send an engineering unit to temporarily occupied Donetsk. Military expert Valery Ryabykh noted that the appearance of the North Korean military in Ukraine could be considered as the DPRK’s entry into the war on the side of Russia.

Cooperation between the DPRK and Russia is already beginning to bear fruit, especially in the field of missile technology. North Korea's receipt of ready-made solutions from Russia allows it to accelerate development and successfully test new missiles. This cooperation highlights the growing relationship between the two countries in the field of military technical support.
