Former Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) Anders Fogh Rasmussen criticized Germany's reluctance to transfer Taurus long-range missiles to Ukraine. In an interview with ntv, he noted that today Germany is the second biggest supporter of Ukraine after the United States, and he really appreciates this.
At the same time, Rasmussen believes that Germany "had too much hesitation when it came to important decisions on arms supplies."
"We all remember the months of discussions about Leopard tanks. Now the Chancellor is refusing to supply Taurus long-range missiles. I really don't understand why. These hesitations only give Putin additional incentive to continue the war. While we were discussing Leopard 2 tanks, he was strengthening his defenses Russia in eastern Ukraine. This has made it even more difficult for Ukrainians to return their lost land. Hesitation does not lead to peace, but to endless war,” the former NATO Secretary General noted.
According to him, Chancellor Scholz wants to be perceived as a chancellor of peace, but “additional hesitation will not make him a chancellor of peace - on the contrary, it will make him a chancellor of eternal war.”
“This is why I continue to urge Chancellor Scholz to agree to the delivery of Taurus missiles as soon as possible. We must remove all restrictions on the supply of weapons, both in terms of what type of weapons we supply and how they are used,” concluded Rasmussen.
