NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that Ukraine will receive a new aid package before the Alliance summit in Washington. This will include additional air defense systems and ammunition.
In an interview with CBS, he noted that the bloc is significantly increasing support for Ukraine and all NATO member countries have agreed to new training programs for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and long-term commitments.
“I expect that before the summit, which begins next week, new announcements will be made on strengthening air defense and increasing the amount of ammunition,” the secretary general shared.
Stoltenberg announced that new initiatives to help Ukraine would be announced at the summit. In particular, about the creation of a logistics center in Germany, where equipment for training the Ukrainian military will be stored.
“This will be a big and important result of the summit, which will provide a stronger basis for our support for Ukraine,” he said.
According to the Secretary General, now the main task of the Alliance is to ensure victory for Ukraine. This is also a prerequisite for the future accession of Kyiv to the bloc. Stoltenberg emphasized that the only way to achieve peace is to convince the ruler of the Russian Federation that it is impossible to win on the battlefield. This requires long-term military assistance to Ukraine, which will ensure its advantage at the front.
“He must sit down at the negotiating table and recognize Ukraine as a sovereign and independent state,” he stressed.
