NATO is ready to provide Ukraine with additional air defense capabilities to protect against Russian attacks.
This is stated in a joint statement by US President Joe Biden, Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, published on the White House website.
“Today we are announcing that we are collectively providing additional strategic air defense systems to Ukraine, including Patriot batteries donated by the United States, Germany and Romania, Patriot components from the Netherlands and other partners, and an additional SAMP-T system from Italy. These five strategic air defense systems will help protect Ukrainian cities, civilians and soldiers," the statement said.
It is noted that the allies are working to announce the supply of additional strategic air defense systems to Ukraine this year. Also, in the coming months, the United States and partners intend to provide Ukraine with dozens of tactical systems, including NASAMS, HAWKs, IRIS T-SLM, IRIS T-SLS and Gepard systems.
