The occupying forces are beginning to feel the pressure of counterattacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the battlefield. The arrival of Western Allied assistance allowed the Defense Forces to stabilize critical areas of the front.
According to the Institute for the Study of War, Ukrainian defenders have carried out tactically important and successful operations in the north of the Kharkov region and in the direction of Kremennaya since mid-May.
Although the Ukrainian Armed Forces have not yet carried out the large-scale counterattacks needed to seize the initiative, tactical operations increase the losses of the Russian army to continue the slow and exhausting offensive. In particular, counterattacks in the Kharkov region forced the Russians to move individual units away from the place where their centralized command is hypothetically located.
“ISW observed that Russia redeployed elements of the 810th Marine Brigade and the battalion tactical group of the 9th Motorized Rifle Brigade to the northern Kharkov region in mid-June, while other units of the 810th Infantry and 9th Motorized Rifle Brigades remained near Krynoki and Toretsk "- note the Institute's analysts.
According to them, the aggressor country divides and deploys airborne units throughout the battlefield. Soldiers of the 137th Regiment of the 106th Airborne Division are fighting in the Kherson region, and other units of the regiment are located near Seversk.
According to ISW experts, the separation and deployment of units of the same large formation shows that the occupiers are beginning to feel the pressure of counter-attacks by the Defense Forces. In addition, this confirms that the front line is not as static as Russian ruler Vladimir Putin believes. Analysts simultaneously note that the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ ability to launch powerful and organized counterattacks still depends on the stability of military assistance from partners.
