US President Joe Biden addressed the nation from the Oval Office of the White House. During a video message, he explained that he withdrew his candidacy from the elections, passing the baton to the “new generation.”

According to Fox news and CNN, Biden said he considered himself worthy of a second term because of his “merit and leadership in the world,” but decided to sacrifice personal ambitions “for the good of democracy.”

"I believe that my record as President, my leadership in the world, my vision for America's future all deserve a second term. But nothing, nothing can stand in the way of saving our democracy - including personal ambition. That's why I decided that the best way forward is to pass the torch to a new generation. This is the best way to unite our nation," the US President said.

At the same time, he emphasized that he intends to complete his current term. Biden also praised Vice President Kamala Harris, who will become the Democratic candidate.

"She's experienced. She's strong. She's capable. She's been an incredible partner to me and a leader to our country. Now the choice is yours, the American people: you make that choice," Biden said.
