The leader of the Palestinian group Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, was killed in his residence in Tehran. According to the Iranian Mehr agency, one of his guards was killed along with Haniyeh.
"Expressing condolences to the heroic people of Palestine, the Islamic nation, the fighters of the Resistance Front and the noble nation of Iran, this morning (Wednesday) an attack was carried out in Tehran on the residence of Mr. Dr. Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the political office of the Islamic Resistance of Hamas, and after this incident, he and one of his guards were martyred," the statement of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said.
A further investigation into the incident is currently underway.
