Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Khizhnyak wins gold at the 2024 Olympics

Ukrainian Oleksandr Khizhnyak became the Olympic boxing champion in the 80 kg weight class. In the fight for gold at the Paris Olympics, he defeated Kazakhstan's Nurbek Oralbay.
This is the second Olympic final for Khizhnyak in his career. In Tokyo, the Ukrainian was one step away from gold, but ultimately lost by controversial knockout.
Nurbek Oralbay, with whom Khizhnyak fought for the Olympic championship, is the current world champion in the 80 kg weight class. They already met in the ring in February 2023. Then, Khizhnyak won by split decision.
This is the third gold medal won by Ukrainian athletes during the Paris Olympics.
