Yuriy Fedorenko, commander of the Achilles strike battalion of the 92nd separate assault brigade named after Koshevoy Ataman Ivan Sirko, responded to the downing of a Russian Mi-28 by an FPV drone over the Kursk region of the Russian Federation. On air at the telethon, he shared his opinion on how promising the direction of combating attack drones in the air against enemy aircraft, in particular, helicopters, can be.
"This direction has been worked out for more than a year, and the Defense Forces have gradually moved towards shooting down enemy aircraft, namely helicopters, using strike drones, FPV drones. I will say frankly and honestly, as a commander of a unit using strike unmanned systems: we kindly envy the representatives of the Security Service, who successfully implemented this operation. I am sure that such a practice will be transferred in the shortest possible time to other structural units of the Defense Forces, in particular to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. As a result, in those areas where there is the most intensive use of enemy aircraft and helicopters, there will definitely be fewer of them," Fedorenko emphasized.
According to the military man, the support of Ukrainians and the programs that are being implemented at the expense of the state provide opportunities to both saturate the Defense Forces with the necessary number of reconnaissance and strike UAVs, and to modernize, improve and expand the aspects of their use.
"Both the representatives of the Defense Forces who pilot them and the manufacturers are moving forward quickly enough to ensure that our assets are as effective as possible, accurately and precisely hitting and destroying the enemy on the battlefield," he emphasized.
Fedorenko noted that drones are now working quite effectively, and the Defense Forces of Ukraine have objectively more of these assets.
"I once again thank the Ukrainians who support us. Thank you to those who make decisions at the state level and programs, in particular effective weapons, that exist today," the military man said.
He added that a million drones for 2024, which are contracted by Ukrainian manufacturers, is very good. But this is not enough to fully cover the needs of the Defense Forces.
"This is the answer to the question of Ukrainians, why, when they declare that the percentage of purchases has increased, state programs are increasing, but they still have to donate. Because every drone is a saved life, it is an opportunity to defend a position or de-occupy a particular territory. Therefore, we must understand that the state plus the Ukrainian nation is the formula that provides the necessary amount of weapons to the Defense Forces," Yuriy Fedorenko summed up.
