A strong eruption of Mount Etna occurred in Sicily, Italy.
According to The Warchers, the new eruption began on August 14 in the Voragine crater and over the next few hours developed into a strong fountain of lava.
As a result, the aviation color code was raised from orange to red.
Along with the lava, the volcano also ejected a thick column of ash, which then fell in many populated areas.
At its peak, the lava fountain reportedly reached a height of about 9.5 km above sea level.
