The war in Ukraine continues, and in the Ternopil region, after a night of enemy shelling, people were called to close their windows and limit their time outside.

In particular, Ternopil Mayor Serhiy Nadal addressed residents of the Druzhba, Kutkivtsi, Pronyatyn, Novy Svit, and Bilyi districts in Telegram: "Please close your windows tightly, because there may be a noticeable smell of burning in the air after lights out," the official noted.

The Ternopil Regional Military Administration reported at about 7 a.m. that a fire broke out during an air raid alarm at night, and that employees of the State Emergency Service and the police were working at the scene.

"We recommend that you do not leave your home unnecessarily when planning your day, limit your children's time outside as much as possible, close the windows indoors, and thoroughly wash food brought from the yard," the report says. The OVA reports that air quality measurements are being taken in the Ternopil region. They promise to provide details later.

At a briefing organized due to the emergency, the head of the Department of the State Emergency Service in the Ternopil region, Viktor Masley, reported that at approximately 3 a.m. a report was received of a fire at one of the enterprises in the city of Ternopil. "Upon arrival at the scene of the fire, a fire was established as a result of an enemy object hitting one of the containers where fuel and lubricants were stored," he noted.

More than 90 rescuers and more than 20 units of equipment were involved in extinguishing this fire. Two fire trains from Ternopil and Lviv were also involved.

According to Masley, at 6.50 the fire was localized, that is, its spread was stopped and it was brought under control.

"The fire is currently being extinguished. There were no casualties as a result of the incident. I think the fire will be extinguished within a day," said the head of the regional department of the State Emergency Service.

The chief state sanitary doctor of the Ternopil region Oksana Chaichuk reported that as of now, no excess of harmful substances in the air and water has been detected by the express method.

"But there are traces of CO2 combustion products, as well as chlorine-containing substances, which do not exceed the permissible concentrations in the atmospheric air. The next measurements will be taken - for the content of formaldehyde and phenols. But these measurements require a longer period of time... Until the updated studies of the atmospheric air and water, we recommend refraining from prolonged stay in the fresh air, it is advisable to keep children indoors with closed windows now," she said.

Air and water quality measurements were taken in Ternopil and two nearby settlements. As Masley noted, air masses with combustion products move further, so measurements will be taken in other settlements where they are directed.
