The United States of America is preparing a new military aid package for Ukraine worth about $125 million. This is reported by the Associated Press.
This aid package will include air defense missiles, ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), Javelin and a number of other anti-tank missiles. It will also include systems and equipment for combating drones and electronic warfare, 155-mm and 105-mm artillery ammunition, vehicles and other equipment.
"The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the aid has not been announced publicly. A formal announcement could come as early as Friday, on the eve of Ukraine's Independence Day. The weapons are being provided under the president's arms reduction authority, meaning they are being taken from Pentagon warehouses and could be delivered more quickly," the AP reports.
The new aid package comes as Ukrainian forces continue to expand their surprise offensive into Russia, where they have officially seized about 1,000 square kilometers of territory in the Kursk region. Russian forces, meanwhile, are making gains in the east, near the Ukrainian town of Pokrovsk, a critical logistics hub.
If Pokrovsk falls, it will jeopardize Ukraine's defenses and bring Russia closer to its stated goal of seizing the Donetsk region. Russian troops are currently just 10 kilometers from Pokrovsk.
