Zaporizhzhya NPP is again on the verge of a blackout - on August 22, due to Russian shelling, an external overhead line was damaged, through which the plant received power from the Ukrainian energy system to meet its own needs.
The press service of Energoatom noted that Zaporizhzhya NPP is currently connected to the Ukrainian energy system by only one power transmission line, the 750 kV Dneprovskaya. If it is damaged, an emergency situation will arise due to the loss of external power to the pumps that cool the reactor cores and the fuel storage pools of Zaporizhzhya NPP.
Energoatom noted that under the "control" of the Russian invaders, who are at the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhya NPP, degradation is constantly deepening in all areas of operation.
"In addition to the recent fire, when one of the two existing cooling towers of the NPP completely burned out due to negligence or deliberate arson, an event with the threat of loss of external power supply to the station has now been added. After all, the lack of competent, qualified and licensed personnel among the invaders and the transformation of the Zaporizhzhya NPP into a military base makes it impossible to operate the station without accidents," the statement says.
The company recalled that since the beginning of the Russian occupation, the Zaporizhzhya NPP has already experienced eight complete blackouts and one partial one - with the launch of emergency diesel generators and safety systems. Their failure could cause an emergency situation.
