Reuters team member Ryan Evans, who was covering the war in Ukraine, was killed in a shelling of Kramatorsk in the Donetsk region. Two other journalists were wounded, the news agency reported on Sunday.
The publication said that Evans worked as a security adviser at the agency and died after a Russian missile hit the Sapphire Hotel, where he was staying as part of a six-person team.
Reuters added that two journalists are being treated, one of them was seriously injured.
"We are urgently seeking more information about the attack, including working with the authorities in Kramatorsk, and we are supporting our colleagues and their families," the publication noted.
Evans is known to have been a former British soldier. He joined Reuters in 2022 and advised the agency's journalists on security issues around the world. He was 38 years old.
"We send our deepest condolences and thoughts to Ryan's family and loved ones. Ryan helped many of our journalists cover stories around the world and he will be greatly missed," Reuters said in a statement.
It is noted that three other team members who were in the hotel at the time of the attack have been found and are safe.
At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the hotel was fired upon by a Russian Iskander missile, which can strike at a distance of up to 500 km.
