Moldova received a request to detain Ukrainian MP Artem Dmytruk when he was on its territory, but law enforcement officers did not have legal grounds for this.
This is written by investigative journalist of Ukrainska Pravda Mykhailo Tkach, citing his own sources in the country's law enforcement agencies. On August 24, the MP crossed the border on foot through the Palanka checkpoint and went to the police station in the city of Stefan Voda.
According to Tkach, the MP could have received temporary asylum in Moldova. The police are investigating this, since in this case he would not have had to leave the country on the same day. After that, Dmytruk went to the Chisinau airport.
By that time, law enforcement officers had already received a request from Ukraine asking to detain the MP, but they did not do so, since they did not have a court decision or suspicion. Grounds for detention were provided the next day. From Rome, Dmitruk could have gone to London or Istanbul.
