The United States continues to increase the production of ammunition as part of defense assistance to Ukraine. A plant in Pennsylvania has increased the production of artillery shells by 50%, and also plans to put into operation additional capacities.
This was reported by the Associated Press with reference to the representative of the commander of the US Ground Forces at the plant in Scranton (a city in Pennsylvania) Richard Hansen. We are talking about 155 mm caliber shells.
"We are working very hard to ensure that we achieve the goal that the Pentagon has set," he added.
As noted, this plant sends ready-made casings to Iowa, where they are filled with explosives and equipped with fuses. The Scranton plant, along with two others in nearby Wilkes-Barre, recently increased production from 24,000 shells a month to 36,000.
A plant official told the agency that three new production lines are also being developed that will allow the Scranton plant to produce even more of the critical munitions.
The plant has been operated by General Dynamics since 2006 under contract to the U.S. government, which owns the plant.
