Even in the event of significant destruction of Kyiv hydroelectric power station, there will be no serious flooding of most districts of the capital. Professor of the Institute of Environmental Radioactivity of Fukushima University Mark Zheleznyak told about this on the air of Kyiv24 TV channel.
"According to our calculations, even in the event of significant destruction, there cannot be major flooding. The maximum that can happen for Obolon, which is the closest, is a rise in the water level in the Obolon lakes. And on the streets of Obolon, centimeters are counted," Zheleznyak explained.
Despite this, he added that the situation could be difficult on the Left Bank, in particular in the area of Rusanovsky Gardens.
"There is an unfinished dam that protected the gardens from flooding. But it will not be as instantaneous as in the movies. It will continue from the beginning of the destruction of the hydroelectric power station for more than half a day. In any case, the water height cannot rise above 2.5-3 meters. This is the worst-case scenario," Zheleznyak added.
Strike on the Kiev hydroelectric power station: what you need to know
The day before, Russian troops launched another massive strike on Ukrainian territory. One of the targets of the attack was the Kiev hydroelectric power station - the Russians sent missiles and drones to the station, Forbes wrote. The hydroelectric power station did not receive critical damage.
The strike was commented on by the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation Andrey Kovalenko. He said that it is impossible to destroy the dam of the Kyiv hydroelectric power station with missiles.
According to scientist Yevgeny Khlobystov, in the worst case, the hydroelectric power station will simply stop generating electricity.
