In Odessa, the rain that began on September 4 turned into a downpour at night, which turned streets into rivers and flooded houses - almost 70% of the monthly precipitation fell.
"Today, our city experienced a hard night. Almost 70% of the monthly precipitation fell - 29.5 mm out of 41 mm for September. During the night, all the capacities of the city's public utilities were involved in order to minimize the consequences of the bad weather," the mayor of the city Gennady Trukhanov said in an address.
As of 9:00 on Thursday, traffic is still difficult in the area of the Peresypsky Bridge, there is no traffic on Shchegoleva, Odariya streets and Shiryaevsky Lane. On Ataman Golovatoho Street, the passage of cars has been partially restored, there are problems with passage on Peresypskaya Street 7-a, and on Khimichnaya - traffic is difficult.
"Utility workers and patrol police officers are working on the scene. The situation is normal on all other sections of the roads," Trukhanov assures.
Also, due to bad weather, some public transport routes have changed. In particular, trolleybus route 8 runs from the Railway Station to Grushevskoho/Khimichnaya Street, and a bus runs on tram route No. 20, because the tracks are flooded.
In addition, 10 trees were knocked down by bad weather, and two large branches fell. It is said that two trees fell on the roadway and interfered with traffic.
Currently, employees and equipment of the municipal enterprises "City Roads" and "Gorzelentrest" continue to work on the city streets.
According to the press service of the regional headquarters of the State Emergency Service, yesterday evening in the Khadzhibey district of Odessa, on the streets Balkovskaya, Krasnoslobodskaya, Tserkovnaya, Shchegoleva, Primorskaya and Armyansky Lane, rescuers removed 15 cars and 3 minibuses from flooded areas. Assistance was provided to 35 people.
Residential buildings were also flooded. As reported by the press service, at night in the Peresyp district of the city, on Ataman Golovatoho Street, rescuers evacuated a child from a flooded apartment on the first floor. It is said that the child was taken to relatives.
In the same district, on Pavla Kravtsova Street, rescuers transported a sick citizen, born in 1989, from a flooded area to the city infectious clinical hospital.
