The UK will supply Ukraine with 650 light multi-role LMM Martlet missiles to strengthen its air defense. According to the UK Ministry of Defense, the contract is worth £162 million (over $200 million).

It is noted that British Defense Secretary John Healey will announce the air defense package today at a meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine Defense at the US Air Force base in Ramstein.

The first batch of LMM missiles is expected to begin before the end of this year.

The weapons package is funded by the UK's £3 billion per year financial package for Ukraine, as well as contributions from Norway through the International Fund for Ukraine (IFU).

"In recent days, we have seen the tragic consequences of Russia's indiscriminate strikes on Poltava and Lviv. These new British-made missiles will help Ukraine defend its people, infrastructure and territory from Putin's brutal attacks. Today, together with our international partners, we will show that we stand united in support of Ukraine. And we will discuss how best to work together to improve our support. Because the security of the UK and Europe begins in Ukraine," said British Prime Minister Healey. The statement noted that the missiles, manufactured by Thales, "are highly versatile and can be launched from a variety of platforms on land, at sea and in the air." They have a speed of Mach 1.5 (about 2.5 thousand km / h) and a range of more than 6 km.
