The White House has criticized Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's public discussions about the Kremlin's support for certain candidates. This was reported by the statement of the coordinator for strategic communications of the US National Security Council John Kirby at a briefing in Washington.
A White House representative responded to a request to comment on the Kremlin leader's words that he prefers Vice President Kamala Harris in the election race.
Kirby responded by emphasizing that Putin "should stop talking about our elections, period."
"He should not favor anyone one way or the other. The only people who should determine who will be the next president of the United States are the American people," he said.
Kirby also added that the American side would be "very grateful" if Putin "A: stopped talking about our elections, and B: stopped interfering in them."
The day before, on September 5, the Russian dictator, during a speech at the Eastern Economic Forum, said that Moscow would support Kamala Harris, who is the vice president and candidate from the Democratic Party, in the upcoming elections in the United States. This was reported by Russian media.
According to Putin, the current US President Joe Biden was previously Russia's favorite. The head of the Kremlin added that "he was removed from the race, but he recommended all his fans to support Ms. Harris - so we will do the same, we will support her."
Putin also did not ignore the representative of the "Republicans" Donald Trump in his speech. In particular, the Russian dictator said that during his presidency (from January 20, 2017 to January 20, 2021), he introduced "such a number" of sanctions against the Russian Federation, which "no president before him had done before."
Russian interference in US elections
It was recently reported that the administration of US President Joe Biden plans to accuse Russia of constant attempts to influence the US elections. According to preliminary data, it was known that the Kremlin was using media and online platforms for this.
And yesterday, the US Department of Justice announced that dozens of fake media outlets with Russian propaganda, which disguised themselves, in particular, as Reuters and WP, had been blocked in the United States. These resources were used, among other things, to influence voters in elections in the US and abroad.
