US President Joe Biden said that his administration is "right now" working on lifting restrictions on Ukraine's use of long-range weapons in the war with Russia.
Reuters writes about this. The agency notes that the US is reluctant to supply or authorize the use of weapons that can hit targets deep inside Russia. Washington fears that this will lead to an escalation of the conflict.
"Other allies of Kyiv supply weapons, but with restrictions on how and when they can be used inside Russia, fearing that such strikes could cause retaliation that would drag NATO countries into war or provoke a nuclear conflict," the article says.
Last week, sources told Reuters that the United States was close to an agreement to provide Ukraine with such weapons, but Kyiv would have to wait several months as the United States worked out technical issues before any delivery.
