This year, 6.3 thousand applicants refused a budget place in Ukrainian educational institutions. This information was provided by Deputy Minister of Education and Science Mykhailo Vinnitsky.

In an interview with the publication "Zerkalo Nedeli" he noted that almost 80% of applicants who refused a budget place entered Ukrainian universities on a contract basis. Some used a state grant.

"According to updated data, there were 6,284 applicants who were offered a budget place and who refused it this year. Of these, 4,842 (77%) entered Ukrainian universities (private or public) on a contract basis. Among such applicants, a sufficient number used a state grant to enter where they really wanted to, and not where there was a budget place," the deputy minister said.

According to Vinnitsky, another 1,442 applicants from this number refused a state-funded place, but did not enroll in higher education institutions in Ukraine. Presumably, these applicants will study abroad.

"It is sad, because these are real losses for our country. But I believe that in the conditions of war, this is a very small figure - we are talking about less than 1% of all those who entered this year and about 2% of those who were offered a state-funded place. Any loss of top applicants is bad," he added.

At the same time, the official noted that this year "very few top applicants chose foreign universities." This, according to him, is evidence of the attractiveness of higher education in Ukraine, its competitiveness, and also speaks of the patriotism of Ukrainian youth.
