"I am deeply troubled by the possible assassination attempt on former President Trump. While the facts are being gathered, I am clear: political violence will not be tolerated. We must all work to ensure that this incident does not incite further violence," Harris said.
She also thanked the Secret Service and law enforcement for their actions, noting that Trump is safe.
The vice president assured that the Biden administration will provide the Secret Service with all the resources it needs to carry out its mission to protect him.
On Sunday evening, Donald Trump's campaign announced that the former president was safe after shots were fired near him.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation described the event as an "attempt to assassinate former President Trump." The incident took place at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. Secret Service agents guarding Trump spotted an armed man and opened fire on him. The man fled but was later apprehended in a vehicle. The suspect is currently in custody.
