This is how the Ministry responded to the bill that was registered in April by the Chairman of the Seimas Committee on Culture Vytautas Juozapaitis and the Minister of Defense Laurynas Kaščiūnas.

Their document proposed not only to ban the distribution and display of Nazi and Soviet symbols on the territory of Lithuania, but also their import or transit through the country.

In the meantime, the Ministry supported these changes in its draft resolution, but also added about the need for administrative liability for those who store the corresponding symbols with the purpose of distributing them.

Since we are talking about the transportation of these symbols, the Ministry of Culture of Lithuania proposes to empower Lithuanian customs officers to initiate cases of administrative offenses, conduct investigations and draw up reports. Currently, the police and the State Border Guard Service are working on this.

It is noted that the draft resolution must be approved by the government. After that, the document will be returned to parliament for further consideration.

The LRT publication added that Lithuania already has a ban on the public display and distribution of Nazi and Soviet symbols, as well as images of the leaders of these regimes. For individuals, fines range from 300 to 700 euros, and for heads of legal entities - from 600 to 1,200 euros.

Recall that earlier in September it became known that Lithuanian customs officers fined two local companies for violating sanctions against the Russian Federation. Each of the companies registered in Lithuania was issued a fine of 10 thousand euros.

It is reported that both companies provided temporary storage, customs clearance and customs representation services for goods produced by sanctioned Russian companies.
