State Department representatives familiarized themselves with elements of the plan for Ukraine's victory in the war last week.
"We were familiarized with elements of the plan when we were in Kyiv last week, and yes, we share the assessment of Thomas-Greenfield (US Permanent Representative to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield). As President Zelensky has said, he looks forward to a detailed presentation of this plan to the President in the coming days and weeks, and I think we will wait for that meeting before drawing any further conclusions on it," said Matthew Miller, a representative of the department, at a briefing.
Regarding the time frame for the implementation of the plan, he noted that it is Zelensky who should share the details, because this is his plan.
At the same time, Washington believes that "there are no means that, in the end, by themselves would be a magic wand that would be decisive in this conflict." According to him, the Americans and the British will continue to discuss long-range weapons during the United Nations (UN) General Assembly next week.
"There are a number of different capabilities that together can help Ukraine win this war, and that is what we continue to provide them," Miller said.
The United States is currently assessing whether there are "additional capabilities, additional tactics, additional methods" that they should provide to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. When the American side is convinced that this is in the interests of Ukraine and the United States, it will be done.
"And when we assess that it is in their interests and the interests of the United States, we will do that... We expect them to prevail by continuing to provide them with the billions of dollars of security assistance that we have provided them since the beginning of this conflict. The kind of security assistance that, coupled with the brave Ukrainian fighting, has resulted in them retaking most of the territory that they lost in Ukraine in the early days of the war," the official concluded.
