The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry responded to the proposal of Polish Foreign Minister Sikorski to transfer Crimea under a UN mandate to prepare for a referendum.
The department emphasized that the status of Crimea as Ukrainian territory is not subject to discussion. Earlier, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski suggested considering transferring the peninsula under a UN mandate to end the war with Russia.
It is worth noting that the Foreign Ministry's statement does not mention Sikorski, nor does it say who exactly is trying to discuss the status of Crimea.
"The territorial integrity of Ukraine has never been and cannot be a subject of discussion or compromise. Crimea is Ukraine. Our Defense Forces, partners, the UN Charter and international law are on Ukraine's side. Crimea is an important center of the European security architecture. Its full restoration is possible only after the complete de-occupation of the entire territory of Ukraine, including the Ukrainian peninsula," the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.
They noted that they expect further decisive support from partners to force Russia to return to respect for international law and the UN Charter, withdraw its troops and weapons from the entire sovereign territory of Ukraine and restore its territorial integrity, as well as hold Russia accountable for its aggression against Ukraine and for all the crimes committed.
"All efforts should be aimed at achieving these goals faster, and not satisfying, in one way or another, the Kremlin's appetites at the expense of the interests of Ukraine and international law," the Foreign Ministry added.
