The European Union has called on states that have ratified the Rome Statute to fulfill their obligations. This concerns the arrest of Russian President Vladimir Putin, since the International Criminal Court has issued a warrant for him.
According to Ukrinform, the corresponding statement was made during a meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna. The EU is deeply concerned about the fate of Ukrainian children and other civilians who were illegally displaced by Russia.
"The European Union once again calls on Russia and Belarus to immediately ensure their safe return to Ukraine," the statement reads.
In addition, the EU demands the immediate release of all individuals illegally deprived of their freedom by the Russian Federation, "including three arbitrarily detained OSCE staff members."
"We recall the six arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court, including against President Putin for the war crime of illegally deporting and transferring Ukrainian children. All states parties to the Rome Statute are obliged to comply with arrest warrants issued by the ICC," the OSCE noted.
