Although the city of Ugledar in Donetsk region is not in the epicenter of defense lines and borders in this location, it is precisely the control over it by Ukrainian troops that prevents the Russian army from resuming rail service through Volnovakha, which will significantly affect the intensity of hostilities in the south. This was reported by military and political observer Alexander Kovalenko:
"Ugledar is holding on. Beyond its capabilities, but holding on."
As the expert noted, according to various estimates, from 15 to 25 thousand occupiers are currently concentrated in the Ugledar area.
"Russian occupation forces are trying to gain a foothold in the southeastern part of the city, in the Vodokanal area. They are breaking through in small assault groups both along the 0532 highway and from the territory of the 3rd Shakhty settlement, which was wiped off the face of the earth, along Sadovaya and Dachnaya streets. If they gain a foothold in the Vodokanal sector, they will be able to reach Politekh via 13 Desantnikov Street, with subsequent consolidation and preparation for a breakthrough to the center," Kovalenko emphasized.
According to him, this task is currently being carried out by the advanced Russian units of the 39th Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 68th Army Corps and the 430th Motorized Rifle Regiment.
"From the southwest, the Russian troops have the task of breaking through to the city hospital, or rather to what is left of it, and after securing this facility, to go along Shakhtyorskaya Street to the center. The second assault group/groups will move north along Molodyozhnaya Street with the goal of cutting off the garrison from logistics to Bogoyavlenka. However, implementing such a plan in this direction will be much more difficult than in the opposite direction, due to the specific terrain," the observer added.
