Norway, following Finland's example, plans to build a fence along part or all of its 198-kilometer border with Russia. This was announced by the country's Justice Minister Emilie Enger Mehl, according to the Independent.

She noted that the border fence is "very interesting" not only because it can act as a deterrent:

"It contains sensors and technology that can detect if people are moving close to the border."

According to the minister, the Norwegian government is currently considering "several measures" to improve security on the border with Russia in the northern Arctic, such as installing a fence, increasing the number of border personnel or increasing monitoring. However, if the security situation worsens, the Norwegian government is ready to close the border for some time.
