The new NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte is "not concerned" about the prospect of Donald Trump returning to the White House and has praised the former US president for urging allies to spend more on defense, according to an article in The Times.

The publication notes that the former Dutch Prime Minister has dispelled fears that a Trump victory in the US elections next month would break Kyiv's fight against the Russian invasion, and praised both presidential candidates:

"I can work with both. Whatever the outcome of the election."

At the same time, Rutte described Democratic Party candidate Kamala Harris as a "fantastic story" and a "highly respected leader."

"I am not worried. Both understand that, in the end, transatlantic relations are crucial not only for Europe," the new NATO chief summed up.
