In Ukraine, the rule on non-payment of VAT (value added tax) for parcels from abroad, the cost of which is less than 150 euros, may be canceled.
The chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy Danylo Getmantsev said this at the Business and War forum. Deputies are already preparing a corresponding bill.
"When talking to businesses, I have not heard any other approach - the benefit of 150 euros should be removed. We are finishing preparing the corresponding bill, we will introduce it, we will not hesitate. Despite the fact that a certain segment of our population will be dissatisfied," the politician said.
He noted that the absence of VAT for parcels worth up to 150 euros introduces "distortions in taxation". According to him, a Ukrainian manufacturer must pay VAT, while those who make the same goods, say, in China, do not pay VAT.
"From the point of view of state tax policy, this is absolute nonsense, nonsense. We oppress people who create added value here, pay taxes, in favor of people we don't even know," Getmantsev emphasized.
Getmantsev believes that the state is "very late" with such a decision. Earlier, the Rada had already voiced the idea of raising the VAT rate simultaneously with increasing the military tax, but, as the politician noted, for some reason it was rejected.
"When the state comes to the people and says: I don't have enough for the army, please, let each of us chip in for this sacred goal, and we need to do it quickly, there are only two answers for this today - the military tax and VAT," he said.
At the same time, Getmantsev believes that the introduction of a luxury tax is ineffective.
