The countries of the European Union finance the full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine by buying energy from the Russian Federation. In total, European countries paid for 1.5 years of military operations by the Russian army.
Although the EU countries began to reduce their dependence on Russian energy after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, they still continue to import them. As of October 19, 2024, the total value of EU energy imports from Russia is 204 billion euros. For comparison, Russia's daily costs for the war are 36.6 million euros.

Germany invested the most in the war against Kyiv - 28.7 billion euros, thus paying for 79 days of hostilities. Italy came in second place, having paid Russia 19.3 billion euros, paying for 53 days of war. The Netherlands came in third. Amsterdam purchased energy resources from Russia for 18.8 billion euros, thereby paying for 52 days of war.
The TOP-5 also included countries such as Hungary and France, which paid Russia 17.5 and 15.8 billion euros, respectively, paying for 48 and 44 days of war.
