Lithuanian Ambassador to NATO Deividas Matulionis said that Vilnius supports Paris's idea regarding the possible sending of Western troops to Ukraine.
In a commentary to Radio Liberty, he noted that if France makes such a decision, it does not need the Alliance's permission to do so.
"These could be national decisions, a group of countries, a coalition that wants to join this initiative. It is not necessary to have NATO's approval or label," the diplomat explained.
At the same time, Matulionis acknowledged that for now, sending Western troops to Ukraine is "just an idea," on which different countries have different proposals. However, the ambassador suggests that this topic could be raised again by NATO foreign ministers at a meeting in Brussels next week.
