Currently, Ukraine needs to overcome corruption in the mobilization process, and regarding the lowering of the mobilization age, we need to hear the reasoned opinion of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Sirsky. This was stated by Senior Lieutenant and former commander of the 4th Company of the 47th Mechanized Brigade Mykola Melnyk on Radio Liberty.

"The problem is not that we have no one to mobilize in the age group that should now be mobilized in accordance with the law, but that we have total corruption in this area. Therefore, when we talk about the discussion of what age, I think we still need to talk about how to overcome the corruption that already exists. Otherwise, any reduction in the age will have half-hearted consequences. In my opinion, at the same time, we need to eliminate the problems in mobilization and military training that currently exist," he said.

Melnik emphasized that today there are more people who have avoided mobilization illegally than those mobilized.

In addition, he noted that "we will be able to talk about reducing or not reducing the mobilization age when we have a clear position from our commander-in-chief."

"Because, on the one hand, they tell us: no, we don't need this, we can handle it. On the other hand, if you ask the brigade commanders how much infantry you have, what is the staffing level, what is the average age, then I think our population might not like the answer. And we proceed from the fact that the war will continue... I'm not ready to say. I still want to hear the opinion of our commander-in-chief, which will be substantiated," the lieutenant explained.
