Ukrainian politicians should adopt a bill on the completion of the Khmelnitsky NPP power units, because citizens expect this: 80% of Ukrainians support this step. This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the commentary of political scientist Petro Oleshchuk.
"Citizens rely on nuclear energy, because it has already proven its sustainability in crisis conditions. This is a direct and clear signal for deputies: they must responsibly work out public expectations and implement them in political decisions. If this does not happen, politicians will face political responsibility," Oleshchuk noted.
The expert emphasized that the reluctance to support the completion of the nuclear units may raise serious questions about the motivation of deputies, in particular regarding their possible connections with forces interested in weakening Ukraine's energy independence. "Failure to make such important decisions may undermine trust in politicians. The public will ask: why are these deputies acting against the interests of citizens? In this case, politicians will simply not receive support from voters in the next elections," the political scientist emphasized.
Considering the high support of citizens and the strategic importance of the issue for Ukraine's energy independence, Petro Oleshchuk expressed confidence that the parliament will make this decision in the near future.
