The German government admits that Russian leader Vladimir Putin may soon end the war in Ukraine. BILD writes about this with reference to the government's "internal analysis".

It is noted that this analysis contains the conclusion that "the Kremlin may end the war this year and is already sending corresponding signals to the Russians and the international community."

It is also noted that one of the reasons for this conclusion is the deterioration of the economic situation in Russia.

"Interest rates and food prices are rising sharply. In the last five months alone, the ruble has lost more than 20% against the euro. The three-shift work of the military-industrial complex can no longer hide the crisis in other industries. If in 2024 economic growth was slightly less than 4%, then in 2025 the expected growth is no more than 1%," the report says.

The second reason for the withdrawal is said to be the preparation of the Russian Presidential Administration for the post-war election campaign for the 2026 parliamentary elections. Recently, Russian media, citing sources, wrote that the Presidential Administration is preparing for the end of the so-called "SVO", that its results should be regarded in Russian society as a victory, and that they are already working on this "image of victory".

Another factor in the scenario of a quick end to the war is the desire of US President-elect Donald Trump to begin negotiations with Moscow and Kiev as soon as possible after his inauguration on January 20, BILD writes.

At the same time, in response to a request from the publication, the German Foreign Ministry said that the government assumes that the war will continue:

"Putin is currently not seriously interested in peace talks and sustainable peace. Russia is not retreating from its maximum demands, such as recognition of the annexation of Ukrainian territory."

BILD political observer Filip Pyatov noted that the signals sent by the Kremlin could mean something else, the opposite, or nothing at all.
