"Everything happened the other way around": expert says whether the Defense Forces have advanced in the Kursk region

The advanced units of the Ukrainian army have achieved certain tactical successes during the offensive in the Kursk region.
This was stated by military observer Denis Popovich on Radio NV.
"The confidence that such tactical successes have occurred is given by yesterday's address by [the commander of the special forces unit "Akhmat"] Apti Alaudinov. He said that everything was recaptured and the main role in this was played by the fighters of "Akhmat". When Alaudinov says this, it means that everything happened exactly the opposite. But as of this morning, in my opinion, it is still impossible to say that these advances were significant," Popovich said.
At the same time, he added that there is little information in open sources now, so it is quite difficult to analyze the situation in this area.
"It is quite possible that Russian sources are right when they say that this could be a diversionary maneuver, and the main blow will be delivered elsewhere. In addition, it must be understood that the Russians tried to implement countermeasures and also tried to attack in slightly different places in the Kursk region," Popovich added.
According to the observer, if Ukraine has had certain successes, they are tactical. And the strategic goal of this operation is still unclear.
"There are certain advances. But to say what the goal of this offensive is, what its further prospects are... They said that it could even be the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant. There is an opinion that the offensive is taking place along the highway - the federal one in the Kursk region. If you look at the map, these settlements, which are mentioned in the reports of the Russian side, they indicate that there is proximity to certain highways. But to say that this offensive of the Ukrainian army has some deep goals - it is impossible today," Popovich noted.
