Russia has significantly reduced the intensity of attacks by glide bombs on Ukraine, but these high-precision weapons still pose a serious danger to the military and civilians, writes Business Insider.

The factors reducing the intensity of strikes include successful attacks by Ukrainian drones on Russian air bases and ammunition depots in the summer and fall, as well as the improvement of Ukraine's air defense.

The glide bombs that Russia has been actively using since the beginning of the war are equipped with kits that turn conventional ammunition into high-precision weapons. They are difficult to intercept due to their short flight time, low radar visibility, and unpredictable trajectories.

Major of the electronic warfare unit of the National Guard of Ukraine Yuriy reported that the number of attacks has decreased by about 70% compared to the summer. He explained this by a series of strikes on Russian bases, as well as possible concerns of Russian pilots due to the appearance of F-16 fighters in Ukraine.

Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence Yegor Chernev noted that strikes on Russian airfields forced Russia to move tactical aviation deeper into the rear. This reduced the frequency of sorties and increased the detection time for Ukrainian forces.

Ukraine is also successfully using electronic warfare, which reduces the effectiveness of Russian glide bombs. George Barros, an expert at the Institute for the Study of War, confirmed that these measures affect the support of Russian ground forces and slow their advance.
