Further military and political support from the US is important for Ukraine. This was stated by the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, in an interview with Defence24.
"Let's be honest - it will be very difficult for us without the US. We must do everything possible to ensure that they support Ukraine. As the well-known Ukrainian proverb says, "one in the field is not a warrior." This is my answer in the context of the United States. In addition, this cooperation is clearly bilateral and mutually beneficial. As for Europe, it is impossible to imagine global security of the European continent without Ukraine. And without our heroic army, now the largest in Europe, hardened in the largest war since World War II," he emphasized.
Responding to a question about peace talks without the direct participation of Ukraine, Budanov noted that final and effective negotiations between the warring countries are impossible without the participation of all parties to the conflict.
Speaking about Ukrainian-Polish relations, Budanov noted that from the first days of the war, Poland provided Ukraine with maximum support.
"Since we are neighbors, the security issues of our region automatically concern both Poland and Ukraine," he emphasized. At the same time, he added that Russia has always tried and will try to drive a wedge into our relations, but we believe in the wisdom of our peoples and governments.
"We have a long and glorious history. And Russia has always been our adversary, and often even our enemy. And together we have overcome this many times. We even captured Moscow," Budanov noted.
The publication notes that in the second Polish-Russian war, the Zaporozhian Cossacks led by Hetman Petro Konashevych-Sahaidachny, a national hero of Ukraine, sided with the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
Budanov emphasized that Ukraine and Poland need to stop fighting "the ghosts of the past." "Some countries, primarily the Russian Federation, will continue to try to sow discord between our peoples, using historical differences and manipulating them through their special services. Our history should strengthen us," noted the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. Budanov emphasized that every Russian tank destroyed by Ukrainians in this war is a tank that did not fight against Poland and Europe.
