Ukraine should not think about what the Russians think about security guarantees for Kyiv. This opinion was expressed by President Volodymyr Zelensky during a press conference.
"I want to tell you that you cannot say that you need to give something to the Russians, to meet them halfway. Yes, but we do not want security guarantees from the Russians. That is the question. We have not yet reached the conditions for the Russians. When we talk about some kind of agreement, then we will talk about what the Russians owe because of this war," Zelensky said.
The president added that Ukraine is now talking about quick decisions, in particular regarding security guarantees. And they depend solely on Kyiv's partners in NATO.
"We said that our army, millions of funding for this army, weapons for this army, air defense, total air defense, protection that neither the Russians nor the Europeans have. Which only Trump has. Air defense protection is exclusively from them. And a contingent from those countries that want, that are capable of standing for some time in our cities, on our borders," Zelensky added.
He noted that now Ukraine knows how many air defenses it needs. And only its partners can provide this assistance to Ukraine.
"What are we asking for that we need to seek some kind of compromise with the Russians? We do not need a contingent of Russians. We do not need air defense from the Russians. We are asking for protection from them. Therefore, we are turning only to our partners. To be honest, we should, it seems to me, at least meet," Zelensky said.
