The European peacekeeping contingent will not appear in Ukraine in the coming weeks, this will happen only after the signing of a peace treaty.
This was stated by French President Emmanuel Macron in an interview with Le Figaro. According to him, if a ceasefire is achieved, it will be very difficult to verify that the front line is being observed. Therefore, France and Great Britain are ready to deploy troops only at the next stage:
"There will be no European troops on Ukrainian soil in the coming weeks. The question is how we use this time to try to get an accessible ceasefire, negotiations that will last several weeks, and then, after the signing of peace, the deployment [of troops]".
The French President emphasized that Europe wants peace, but not at any cost - when Ukraine does not receive security guarantees.
